ST HELENA OYSTER SHELL BUCKLE

St. Helena Island is located in Beaufort County S. C..   St Helena is considered an "Inland Sea Island" as it does not have actual frontage on the Atlantic Ocean. It is the largest of the Sea Islands in Beaufort County S. C. and the largest between Edisto Island to the North and Hilton Head to the South. The Island is surrounded by expansive marshes, creeks, and tidal "flats" along its Southeastern side. The islands oyster, shrimping , fishing and farming industry benefit both residents and tourist year round.                                                                                                                                                     The ST. HELENA OYSTER SHELL BUCKLES are lost wax cast from the original wax carving by Curtis Hart. They are "one piece" castings in solid yellow brass and are hand finished, one at a time, here in my Hilton Head Island shop. The buckles are then suspended over industrial strength ammonia turning the metal to its aged patina.  The buckle weighs 128 grams and is 3 inches long,  2 3/4 inches tall and 1 1/2 inches thick at there thickest point. Fits the 1 3/8 wide straps.
